About Me
Hello! I’m Sarah Prater, a Marriage and Family Therapist Candidate hailing from a charming small town in Ohio. I’ve carried my small-town roots to the mountains of Colorado, where I’ve been since 2019. I completed my Master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy at Capella University.

Growing up in Cortland, OH, with a close-knit family, I’ve always valued strong relationships. Outside of work, I love spending time with family, friends, and my pets. I was a gymnast for many years and enjoy staying active through activities and sports like softball, volleyball, and yoga.

My Background

I earned Bachelor’s degrees in Psychology and Sociology from Youngstown State University before moving to Colorado in 2019. Recently, I completed my Master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy at Capella University while interning at Relate Family Therapy. Now, I continue my work with Relate as an MFTC.

I aim to help clients improve their mental health, drawing on my training and experiences. I have worked with a diverse range of clients, including children, teens, adults, and couples.

My Approach

I use a collaborative and tailored approach to therapy, incorporating various evidence-based techniques:

    • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): Helping clients identify and challenge negative thought patterns and behaviors, particularly useful for anxiety, depression, and self-esteem issues.
    • Narrative Therapy: Assisting clients in rewriting their stories by externalizing problems and creating more empowering narratives.
Solution-Focused Therapy: A future-focused approach that helps clients identify practical steps and immediate solutions, emphasizing strengths and what’s working well.
    • Play/Art Therapy: Utilizing play and art interventions to help younger clients express themselves in a non-verbal way. This is particularly helpful for children with trauma, social difficulties, or emotional regulation challenges and can also be beneficial for teens, depending on their preference.

I look forward to working with clients as they heal and grow. Let’s take this step together!
