Childhood Trauma

Being a safe haven for our kids is often the central focus of parenting. When children experience traumatic events, it can be scary for all members of the family.  Parents can be triggered by their own history or just be unsure of what to do next. After trauma, kids often have behavioral issues that can be mistaken for ADHD or other diagnoses. Parents are not sure what behaviors are the result of trauma and what is just part of their development. Knowing how to parent after a trauma can be difficult.

Relate Family Therapy and Counseling provides families a place to express and understand the details of the trauma. This in itself can be healing and helpful.  In addition, the therapists can guide you around how to play a supportive role as a parent throughout your child’s care.
