About Me
Hi- I’m Barbra Cottrell, currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy at National University. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Marriage and Family Studies from Brigham Young University- Idaho

Originally from Colorado, I have wonderful memories of my childhood, like going to White Fence Farm and Casa Bonita, and playing outdoors with my siblings and friends. I also had a great time doing musical theater in high school and college. My husband, kids, and I lived in Oregon for a while, and we absolutely loved it there. One of our favorite things was visiting Canon Beach and collecting seashells and pretty rocks. When I’m not in therapy sessions, I enjoy spending quality time with my loved ones, including my husband, children, friends, and my 21 nieces and nephews.

As a therapist, my passion lies in working with couples, families, and individuals. I find that my personal experiences in marriage, relationships with my children, and my cultural background have shaped my belief in the importance of relationships and context in our mental health. I have expertise in therapeutic modalities such as Emotion-Focused Therapy, Bowen Family Systems, Structural Family Therapy, and play therapy. I believe that therapy is an art form, and my goal is to create a safe and respectful space where clients feel seen and heard. Flexibility is key in therapy, and I tailor each session to meet the unique needs of my clients. I value personal autonomy and empowerment, and I believe that therapy works best when it is self-driven. I respect and honor each client’s journey, and I am here to provide support and guidance along the way.
