Low-cost options are available.
Psychologists and other mental health care providers are required by law to give uninsured and self-pay patients a Good Faith Estimate of costs for services that they offer when scheduling care and/or when the patient requests an estimate.
You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” for the total expected costs of any non-emergency services detailing how much your medical care will cost.
Make sure your healthcare provider gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least 1 business day before your medical service or item. You can also ask your healthcare provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service.
If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. You may contact Relate Family Therapy & Counseling to let us know that the billed charges are higher than what was listed in the Good Faith Estimate. You may also start a dispute resolution process with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) within 120 calendar days of the date on the original bill. There is a $25 fee associated with the dispute process. If the agency reviewing your dispute agrees with you, you will have to pay the costs listed on this Good Faith Estimate only. If the agency reviewing the dispute disagrees with you, you will be required to pay the full amount billed to you.
Disclaimer: The Good Faith Estimate shows the cost of the services that are reasonably expected for your health care needs based on the information known at the time the Estimate was created. The Good Faith Estimate does not account for unexpected costs that may arise during treatment. You could be charged more than what this Estimate shows if special circumstances occur. If this happens, federal law allows you to dispute/appeal the bill.
** To learn more about the No Surprises Act, and to get the form to begin the dispute process, go to www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call HHS at (800) 368-1019.
