About Me
I was raised in a large family and brought up here in Colorado. Growing up, family was the central value, and I was taught that those relationships are what makes life meaningful and happy. I was so enthusiastic to have my own family that I started mine at a young age – naive but optimistic. Now, 17 years later, my husband and I have five children of our own and so many experiences together that have shaped us as parents, as a couple, and as unique individuals. I can say from experience, life has never been simple or easy. In truth, it’s often overwhelming and frequently uncomfortable and even scary; but that is part of what makes it meaningful. My personal experiences serve as reminders to me to be patient, gentle, and to carefully listen to understand others.
In therapy I use emotion-focused therapy, child-centered therapy, attachment, and Bowen. When working with children, I follow evidence-based practices and provide a gentle, safe and compassionate space for them to do their own therapeutic work on their own timetable. I work collaboratively with parents and caregivers during the therapeutic process to give the child the support they need along their journey.
In my work with couples, I strive to support partners in the process of making sense of the conflict in their relationship and to learn how to communicate the heart of the problem in a way that is safe and productive.
Maintaining meaningful relationships of any kind is by nature challenging and complex. There are no secret solutions or quick fixes when we are confronted with the complexities of being human in the context of relationships. As a therapist, I am here to support individuals, children, couples and families to grow and work through the challenges they are confronted with in a compassionate, respectful and collaborative way.
