About Me
I grew up in Black Hawk and Denver, Colorado, and later spent two years living in Cape Coral, Florida, to try something new before returning to Colorado for this internship opportunity. My own experiences growing up in foster care and navigating an unstable childhood inspired me to pursue a career in counseling, with the hope of helping others find healing and stability.
When I’m not working, you’ll often find me spending time with friends, playing golf, or staying active with volleyball, basketball, running, weightlifting, camping, and hiking.
Fun facts: I’ve always had a knack for making people laugh and have even considered trying stand-up comedy someday!
My Background
Before 2020, I primarily worked in manual labor jobs. The pandemic gave me the chance to reevaluate my path and inspired me to pursue something more meaningful: helping others. My personal path and challenges ultimately led me to psychology, as I wanted to understand myself better and support others in doing the same.
So far, my clinical experience has been working with individuals struggling with addiction, and I truly enjoyed that work. While I don’t yet have a defined specialty, I’m passionate about exploring different areas during my time at Relate and plan to pursue additional training in CBT and DBT in the future.
My Approach
I approach counseling from an existential perspective, believing that life’s challenges often relate to universal human struggles such as meaning, responsibility, and autonomy. I strive to create a space where clients feel safe to explore who they are without fear of judgment, where they feel heard, validated, and understood. .
My sessions are always tailored to the client’s needs, beginning with building trust and rapport. I often incorporate mindfulness-based exercises and practical coping strategies, especially when working with clients facing addiction. While I maintain professional boundaries, I also believe that an appropriate sense of humor can sometimes bring lightness and healing into the therapeutic process.
Ultimately, I want clients to leave our sessions feeling empowered, capable, and authentic. I believe in helping people uncover their strengths, regain a sense of control, and live life true to their values.
