Lindsey DiStefano, MA, LPC

Hello, I’m Lindsey

Licensed Professional Counselor

I believe the best things in life come along when we have balance, and therapy is no different! The balance between naming where there is accountability and having support while providing a safe, non-judgmental place to do it.

I moved to Colorado from Michigan with my best friend almost 10 years ago. We had many missteps while learning how to interact with our new Colorado landscape. In the beginning, it seemed like we always found ourselves with too little water and too ambitious of a plan. On one such hike, I heard my friend muttering a song to herself, “Just keep swimming…” It was Dory’s anthem from Finding Nemo. Throughout the last ten years we have sung that song to each other, and to ourselves, in order to get through many hardships and challenges. I currently consider Colorado my home and still maintain a tight connection with my Michigan roots. I am very close with my family and enjoy watching Michigan State sports (Go Green!) I also enjoy spending time with friends and family, reading, watching movies, running and hiking.

I WORK WITH MY CLIENTS TO EXPLORE PATTERNS OF BEHAVIOR OR SITUATIONS THAT SEEM TO REPEAT. ONCE WE GET TO THE ROOT OF THE PATTERN, WE CAN WORK ON CREATING A NEW PATH FORWARD. WHETHER YOU ARE STUCK IN THE SAME FIGHT WITH YOUR PARTNER, YOU CONSISTENTLY MAKE THE SAME ANNOYING MISTAKE WITH YOUR FAMILY OR FRIENDS, OR YOU WANT TO BE MORE PRODUCTIVE AT WORK, WE CAN WORK TOGETHER TO IDENTIFY STUMBLING BLOCKS, AND SUBSEQUENTLY, A VIABLE PATH FORWARD. LIFE IS CAPABLE OF THROWING CURVEBALLS AT US THAT WE CANNOT ALWAYS CONTROL. I CONSIDER IT MY PRIVILEGE TO ALLOW MY CLIENTS THE SPACE TO BE ANGRY, GRIEVING, VULNERABLE, AND HAVE ANY EMOTION IN BETWEEN. FROM THERE, WE CAN WORK TOGETHER TO RESTORE BALANCE AND A SENSE OF NORMALCY.

I STARTED MY CAREER WORKING WITH CHILDREN AROUND ACADEMIC DIFFICULTIES. THROUGH THIS EXPERIENCE, I BEGAN TO SEE THAT THEY WERE EXPERIENCING A MULTITUDE OF ISSUES BEYOND THEIR SCHOOL PERFORMANCE. MANY OF THEM HAD BEEN THROUGH A TRAUMA THAT WAS LINKED TO THEIR SYMPTOMS. BECAUSE OF THIS, I CHOSE TO PURSUE FURTHER EDUCATION AND EARNED A MASTER’S IN COUNSELING FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF COLORADO DENVER. I HAVE WORKED WITH CHILDREN AND ADULTS AROUND ISSUES LIKE GRIEF, TRAUMA, DEPRESSION, ANXIETY, AND IMPULSE CONTROL.
