Lindsey DiStefano, MA, LPC

– Therapist –

About Me

I was born and raised in Michigan, but moved to Colorado 10 years ago to attend graduate school and find some adventure. More recently, I’ve moved back home to Michigan to be closer to my family, and have been able to continue working for Relate Family Therapy & Counseling remotely as well.

I am very close with my family and spend time with them whenever I can. Whether I’m by myself or with friends and family, I love to watch many different Michigan State University sports (Go Green!), read, run, and hike in my spare time.

“Life is full of unpredictable and uncontrollable curveballs. Change can be difficult to process, but a therapist can walk with you through these life transitions. You are never alone.”

My Background

  • Bachelor of Arts – Psychology, Michigan State University
  • Master of Arts – School Psychology, University of Denver,
  • Master of Arts – Counseling Psychology, University of Colorado, Denver
  • Introduction to Synergetic Play Therapy

I began my career supporting kids in schools with their academic difficulties, but quickly noticed that many of the children I worked with also had experienced trauma of some kind, and that they needed more than just academic support. This is what inspired me to pursue further education and earned a Master’s in Counseling from the University of Colorado Denver.

As a therapist, I specialize in helping kids and adults of all ages overcome issues that stemmed from a childhood trauma, whether it occurred years ago or is still ongoing. I consider it my privilege to be able to provide a space that allows my clients to grieve, be vulnerable, and feel any emotion as it comes. From there, we can work together to find a sense of peace and hope.

My Approach

Whether you feel stuck in the same argument with your partner or you want to be more productive at work, we can collaborate to set goals relevant for you. I aim to help my clients identify and explore patterns of behavior or situations that repeat in your life, in order to create a new path forward.

In a typical session, I utilize strategies that address where patterns of thinking or behavior may be unhelpful or harmful, such as Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical-Behavioral Therapy. Together, we will collaborate to find the best plan of action steps for your specific needs and to overcome the barriers you face.

Therapy provides a space to explore your inner world and learn about yourself. Together, we will grow into the best and most authentic version of yourself, and learn to make the choices to live the happiest life you can live.”

I often utilize Play Therapy techniques, as well as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy skills, to focus on helping you find solutions for the stumbling blocks you’ve come across. I also have training in Attachment Therapy and co-parenting coaching, and incorporate that knowledge into a session when the need arises.
